The University of Montana Climate Action Fund is a project of Reinvest Montana and 350 Missoula.  350 Missoula is a non-profit climate change organization based in Missoula, Montana.  Reinvest Montana is a student organization at the University of Montana demanding the University of Montana Foundation (UM Foundation) divest its endowment from fossil fuel investments and reinvest part of the endowment in climate solutions and sustainable local business.

Our goal is that the presence of this fund will encourage the UM Foundation to make the commitment of divesting its endowment from the top 200 fossil fuel companies* (in order of carbon assets) and reinvesting in real solutions to the climate crisis.  This fund is designed to ensure that if the UM Foundation agrees to the stipulation of the fund, the money raised will be used to support the UM Foundation’s endowment.  If the UM Foundation does not agree to the stipulations outlined below, the money raised will be split between two funds.  One, the Kless Revolving Energy Loan Fund (KRELF) is a student-initiated, student-funded loan program that supports energy and resource conservation projects on the University of Montana campus.  Two, the Climate Action Student Support Fund (CASSF) funds UM graduate and undergraduate students directly engaged in efforts to curtail global warming.  If for any reason, either KRELF or CASSF is unable to use any or their entire portion of the funds, the other will receive these funds.
